VOTE FOR US!! MN BRIDE "BEST OF" AWARD.

Hi Friends!!

I am SO excited to tell you it's now that time of year to vote for Capture Studios. Every year MN Bride does a "best of" award for wedding vendors throughout our state. Last year we were a runner up, but this year we want to take the cake (there actually isn't cake, but we will take some pretend cake...and it will taste so good...like chocolate or something). 

It only takes a minute or 2 and every vote counts. Whether you live in MN or Alaska, are a newborn or one of our retiree fans, WE NEED YOU. They will ask for some info on you to make sure your vote is legit, but other than that, you won't be solicited by them at all.

To make sure your vote counts, you need to vote for at least 6 vendors. If you need suggestions, I can help you, but MAKE SURE Capture Studios is entered in the "videographer" category and if you feel we really rock your socks off, add us to the "best overall vendor" as well.

REX + STEPHANIE // Des Moines, IA

I had never been to Des Moines. Now I have. They have a Starbucks.

Rex and Stephanie had the perfect November day. Some highlights for Tyler and I included their gift exchange (which unknowingly happened to both be a new pair of sunglasses for their Mexico honeymoon), learning that people from Iowa sort of have southern-ish accents, Stephanie becoming a self-proclaimed "Wedding Barbie", their post-ceremony celebratory bell-ringing, and one of the most breathtaking receptions I have yet to see.

SPENCER + ALEXANDRA // San Diego, CA

I don't really know where to begin with this one. When I first met Spencer Combs, I was just getting Capture off the ground. We met up for lunch to talk about photography, film and that sort of stuff. After a while, Spencer started telling me about his then girlfriend, Alex, who lived in Nashville. They were in the middle of the long-distance relationship deal, since his photography business was here in MN, but I could tell by the way he talked about her that it wouldn't be long before an engagement was in order. Well, it happened.

I was thrilled when Spencer and Alex decided to head out to San Diego for an oceanside wedding and thought I should come along. I knew it would be amazing and every minute of it was. I am so happy for Spencer and Alex and this clip, I believe, gives a taste of what we experienced. The music I picked for this clip is by one of my new favorite artists, who actually played at the wedding, Steve Moakler. Please check him out! CHRIS + CATHY // Mexico

Our blog has reached new heights; literally. Right now I am typing at 35,000 feet thanks to Delta's new GoGo internet. My wife and I are on a quick little family trip for Thanksgiving, which I am SO excited for. 

As some of you saw from my post last week, I had the privilege of shooting a wedding in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico this fall. I met Chris and Cathy through my friend Chris Meyer of CM Photographics  and boy am I glad I did! Both Chris and I felt instantly welcomed into their wedding party and I have to admit that their wedding, the people there, the surroundings, and the whole experience was a highlight of my year. We met so many great people and I was even introduced to this crazy deal known as the "Disco Techa". All in all, an amazing wedding and an amazing couple that was obviously very much loved and in love.

This clip is one of my favorites for so many reasons. Enjoy! -Matt

MARK + TAMI // Minneapolis, MN

Mark and Tami were so awesome to work with! I met them back at the start of 2009 and could not wait to shoot their wedding. Mark had been living in Madison and Tami was in Minneapolis, so they are proof that long distance relationships can work! In fact, when searching for a song for their highlight clip, I came across this lyric, "We stretch our love across different states", which I think really fit them perfectly. Mark said one of the things he is looking forward to most about being married to Tami is to just live in the same town as her and do the everyday things that couples get to do. That day is finally here!

On their wedding day, I loved when Tami broke out the Coach golf glove (which was so much her style and personality) and Mark decided to tee off a big drive in his tux. They were such a blast to watch!

Mexico

Hi friends! I just arrived in Playa Del Carmen yesterday for a destination wedding that will be tomorrow, as well as a day after shoot on Saturday. I am so excited to shoot down here again and it brings back great memories from Shannon and Randy's wedding I here last April. 

As I sit and type in 80 degree weather in the middle of November, I am reminded why I love destination weddings and thought I would share. 

1. UNIQUE ENVIRONMENTS: As an artist, new surroundings force you to see things differently. I love shooting somewhere I have never seen before because it keeps me on my toes and doesn't allow me to play it safe.

2. LAID BACK ATMOSPHERE: I know this might not be the case for everyone, but my destination wedding experiences have been really chill and laid back. Typically only the closest family and friends make the investment, which means that you only have to host a limited amount of people. Being on a wedcation is the tops in my opinion. Win-win-win.

3. TIME, TIME, TIME: When we do destination weddings, we typically build a day into the front and end of the trip to shoot stuff we normally wouldn't have time to shoot. When you are at a resort, you can get a lot of good stuff before and after the wedding, because unlike a church, you have unrestricted amounts of time at the venue. I love waking up for a sunrise or shooting at sundown. Even without the bride and groom present, shooting those experiences enhances the overall story and helps bring back more memories and emotion when watching your wedding film.

Best Fall Ever

What's up friends? Usually my blogs include a film clip, but I am just sitting here today finishing a couple edits and in awe of how amazing my fall has been. We shot 7 weddings in Sept, 7 in Oct, and have 4 more left to close out 2009. Quite simply, best fall ever, best year ever.

Two weekends ago my wife Faith and I had an absolute blast out in San Diego shooting one of my favorite weddings of all time. Faith is a freelance wedding planner coordinator (check her out at www.havefaithweddings.com) and we actually got to work together on a destination wedding. Possibly the best part of this whole deal is that it was the wedding of one of my favorite dudes on the planet, wedding photographer Spencer Combs. Spencer and Alex were so amazing and their wedding film is going to be out of the world.

Today my friend and amazing photographer Collin Hughes emailed me this image from part of our day after shoot, so I thought I would share. Basically, I was barefoot on slippery rock/cliff walking side to side with the Steadicam. I am not gonna lie, I did trip up pretty bad once, but the cat-like reflexes saved my life. Also, we had a great time working with Kristi from Dolce Studios, so keep an eye out for some insane pictures and video in weeks to come.

JAMAL + JESSICA // Minneapolis, MN

What a great day! Jamal and Jessica were so amazing to work with and their wedding was so much fun! I got to shot alongside my friend Eliesa of Photogen Inc, which is always a treat for me. Her images from the day are incredible!

Some highlights from the day:

1. Jamal's family is Sri Lankan, so all the ladies were dressed in their traditional dresses and their special Sir Lankan ceremony rituals were so beautiful.

2. Jessica and Jamal didn't see each other before the ceremony, so the look on his face when she was walking down the aisle was priceless. 

3. I think I laughed harder at their best man and maid of honor speeches than I have all year. You will get a little taste in this clip.

TATE + JESSICA // St. Paul, MN

I met Tate and Jess through one of my previous weddings, Connor and Lisa, which Calvin and I shot last October. I love it when we get referrals from past weddings, because I know they have seen our work, understand what it is we do, and are always very excited to have us involved in their day.

There are couples that sort of compliment each other, and then there are couples that really click. Even though I had only met Tate and Jess twice before their wedding day, it was so obvious that they were not only in love, but that they really clicked. Wedding days can really take their toll on people, for good reason, but I was amazed at how relaxed and ready Tate and Jess were for their big day.

We also had a great time working with their photographers at GEO35 Studios, check them out!
